Some quick thoughts on last nights election results
So the results are now in. Mayor John Destefano won the Democratic nomination in a tough 4 way race. He did not win a majority (over 50%) just a pluarity (around 43 - 44%).
Even more significant was the sweep by the Unite Here affiliated trade unions Yale 34 & Yale 35 of all of the aldermanic races they ran. Not only did they sweep the won by large majorities - other then in Westville's Ward 25.
I feel that this new board make up will push an agenda that focuses on keeping the status quo for municipal employees and if that means our taxes will go up so be it.
I am still trying to process all of this. More soon.
Perhaps we should make the Internationale the anthem for New Haven,

Endorsement of State Rep Toni Walker
Hi All:
As you may be aware, there is a race for the State Representative position in the 93rd District. Jackie James is running against Toni Walker.
I would like to take this opportunity to wholly & enthusiastically endorse our current State Rep Toni Walker.
Toni has treated me fairly & honestly even when she could have done otherwise.
She has been one of the City's strongest allies in Hartford in this budget mess. She looks out for the concerns and needs of the neighborhood, from everything from the Whalley Avenue Jail problem to stopping SCSU from putting a 550 car garage at the intersection of the Ella T. Grasso Blvd & Crescent Street.
I believe that Toni is an asset to the District, the City & State. She is the right person for the job and is dedicated to it.
I have worked with her and look forward to continuing working with her to make the City a better place to live, work & play.
Yours truly,
Moti Sandman

Endorsement of Hillary Clinton
Hi All:
I would like to publicly announce that I am Endorsing Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Nomination.
In choosing Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama is not rejecting in any way the energy and message that Senator Obama brings to the race.
I am endorsing Hillary because she is brilliant, has a handle on all of the issues and most importantly is a pragmatist.
As a legislator I understand the importance of working with others with whom you may not agree with. As President it is of the utmost importance that she is able to work with members of both sides of Congress.
In addition we need our President to be willing to take a strong stand on our National Security and I have greater faith in Hillary’s plan then in Barack’s.
I look forward to your comments on this matter and hope that we can work together to put a Democrat into the White House this November.

The Mayor's requested Pay Increase
Dear All:
I have been contacted by a number of folks commenting on the pay rate increase that the Mayor is looking for. You can read about it in the New Haven Independent, the New Haven Register, or the Yale Daily News.
As your elected official I would like to hear what you think about this. For or against or perhaps a partial raise
The Finance Committee of the BOA is having a hearing at 7pm November 20th. I understand that the WEB meets that night so I won’t be at the WEB, but if one can’t make a hearing you can always send a letter to be read into testimony.
You can post a signed comment here, call me at 772-1805 or email me at ward28@snet.net

Election
Hi Guys:
Well it appears that I don't have a challenger in the primary. The person did not qualify. This means that the polls will not be open this September 11th as there is no primary for either me or the Mayor.
I ordered yard signs prior to knowing that no one was running, but if you want one just shoot me an email and I will get one over to you.
Once again thank you to everyone that offered to walk with me and hand out literature.
Yours,
Moti
